Lawyer’s Committee for Human Rights – YUCOM in collaboration with the Gender Equality Directorate has realized a project to improve the participation of women from double discriminated groups in political and public life. The project was carried out during the year of 2012, and supported by the International Management Group and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency – SIDA.
The main objective was to investigate the participation of women in political and public life, with a focus on women from marginalized groups.
The main objective of the project “Go public – Improvement of Parliamentary transparency” is to demand/monitor accountability of the institution and to develop effective and widely available mechanisms for public oversight of parliamentary work.
Lawyers Committee for Human Rights – YUCOM, together with the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights and the Network of Committees for Human Rights – CHRIS implemented thr project Monitoring Freedom of Assembly in Serbia from March to December 2012. year.
The project has focused on monitoring and evaluation of the protection and exercise of freedom of assembly by observing assemblies throughout Serbia, taking into account national and international standards. 50 assembles was monitored in 10 cities in Serbia (Belgrade, Nis, Negotin, Novi Sad, Novi Pazar, Tutin, Valjevo, Zajecar…). 25 were monitored in Belgrade, and the remaining 25 in other cities.
This publication is part of the fourth Joint Project of the ARIADN E Network against Trafficking in Human Beings in South-Eastern
and Eastern Europe entitled “Trafficking and Migration in South-Eastern and Eastern Europe”, funded by the Norwegian Ministry
of Foreign Affairs.

Scope of legal aid provided by the YUCOM Legal Aid Office
In principle, the scope of legal aid provided by YUCOM Legal Aid is defined according to subjective criteria by determining target groups and the subject that which performs the violation, and according to objective criteria related to the field in which the legal aid is given.

Project: Litigation of Cases related to Human Rights and Protection of Human Rights Defenders

About the project: The project aims to address the need of citizens and human rights NGOs for free and professional legal aid in cases of discrimination and HR violation reported to them and in cases against HR Defenders. Through court litigation of 10-15 cases the project tested the mechanisms provided by Serbian legislation and in the set of laws on discrimination in specific strategic litigation of court cases and thus raised awareness of human rights violations of selected vulnerable groups: Roma, persons with disabilities, LGBT, women, HIV positive, minorities.
The activities of the Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights are aimed at the realization of the principle of rule of law and democratic values in Serbia.
Through its legal aid, YUCOM is leading strategic cases before Serbian and international courts in order to help us find and target errors within the system in Serbia related to human rights violations.
