Silence still reigns over Savamala and the “Gazela” bridge in Belgrade, where there were wrecking crews in the election night. The authorities still have no answers as to who has demolished a multitude of objects and on whose authority. The entire operation was assisted by people with hoods over their heads who, according to witnesses, were waylaying all passers-by.

After finding the fake court seals in Sabac, they were also detected in Belgrade. Approximately sixteen hundred (1611) forged seals of the First Basic Court were found among statements of signatories who allegedly supported the Hungarian movement – for change, the Democratic Union of Hungarians from Vojvodina and the Democratic Union of Croats. After an inspection of a portion of the materials it was also confirmed that 3957 statements of the voters who supported the list “It’s only us – Natural movement – Vladimir Zaharijev”, were stamped by a forged seal of the First Basic Court.

This publication is a result of the project ‘NGOs and the judiciary – watch dog activities, interactions, collaboration, communication’ conducted between January 2015 and March 2016 with the support of the funding from International Visegrad Fund and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The Project provided a platform for exchange of experiences and best practices involving six organizations from six different countries: Czech Republic (CEELI Institute), Slovakia (VIA IURIS), Poland (INPRIS), Albania (Albanian Helsinki Committee), Macedonia (Coalition of Civil Associations “All for fair trials”) and Serbia (Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights – YUCOM).

Belgrade – attackers on the offices of the House of Human Rights and Democracy, who have in the night between January 21st and January 22nd broken the windows of the NGO’s offices are still at large, despite the promise of Nebojsa Stefanovic, Minister of internal affairs, that the police is intensively working on the apprehension of the culprits of this “act of vandalism”.

The Lawyers Committee for Human Rights is participating in the monitoring of the representation of Serbia to OSCE with regards to the human aspect of OSCE, with the goal to actively contribute to human security of the citizens of Serbia.

Human aspect refers to the broader concept of security within OSCE which also includes the protection and promotion of human rights and democratic standards.

Milan Antonijevic, president of the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights, said in a statement today that the acquittal of Vojislav Seselj was unexpected, but that it demonstrates that the Tribunal is not a political court.
“This verdict was unexpected, but when you take into consideration that the trial lasted 13 years, we somehow got to the point at which we can expect just about anything from the Hague Tribunal.

Over a year has passed since the nationalist’s assault wave on bakeries in Vojvodina, owners of which were mostly Albanians, and the perpetrators haven’t been apprehended and the suspects remain unpunished. According to the research done by the Vojvodina analyst-research center “Voice” only one case resulted in the issuing of corrective measures, while charges in other cases were either refuted or never reached court.
