About the project:
Lawyers Committee for Human Rights – YUCOM is conducting a regional project under the auspices of the Balkan Regional Network for the Rule of Law (BRRLN) in cooperation with the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Macedonia, Tirana Legal Aid Society (TLAS) from Albania, Balkans Policy Research Group (BPRG) from Kosovo and the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The main objective of the project is to improve the capacity of journalists to report on progress of the rule of law reform in all five countries and to support better cooperation between bar associations, journalists and civil society organizations in those countries as well as in the region.
Trainings will be organized for journalists, and a manual prepared for monitoring of court procedures. The focus will be on strengthening professional reporting with respect to the presumption of innocence and protection of the rights of minors. Special attention will be paid to monitoring the quality of media reporting on issues related to the rule of law.
Lawyers Committee will work on raising the level of communication and information exchange between lawyers who are well acquainted with the fair trial standards and journalists. Training will be organized for PR persons of bar associations and other interested lawyers, for achieving more effective communication with the public. Lawyers who are not able to attend the training will have a useful manual prepared by the Lawyers Committee on this topic.
Special attention will be paid to creating new lines of communication between bar associations and civil society organizations in the region, as well as creating a sustainable front for monitoring progress in the rule of law reform in all five countries.
