Project Name: Freedom of Expression and Privacy Protection on the Internet in Serbia
Project Duration: June 15, 2023-May 15, 2024
Donor: ABA ROLI
Project Value: 24.980 USD
Project Goals and Objectives:
The project aims to improve the digital environment for journalists and human rights defenders (HRDs) in Serbia, with a specific focus on shielding them from abusive court proceedings, notably SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) cases.
YUCOM’s legal experts will conduct an analysis of SLAPP cases within Serbia’s digital realm to pinpoint instances of rights abuses and offer recommendations for enhancing court procedures. Additionally, an online video podcast will be developed during the project’s implementation to raise awareness about SLAPP cases and judicial harassment. This podcast will present selected litigation cases in a format easily understandable to the public.
Yucom will spearhead a media campaign to involve Serbian society in discussions regarding freedom of expression issues. Furthermore, an advocacy campaign will be carried out, concentrating on improving mechanisms to prevent SLAPP lawsuits within the digital sphere.
