The decision of Swiss judiciary to extradite NaserOric, war-time commander of Muslims from Srebrenica, to Bosnia and Herzegovina isn’t surprising.
These are the words of Milan Antonijevic, Director of the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights, who also said we have to wait and see what kind of assurances were given by the authorities in B&H.
“We have yet to see what further procedures will be taken in B&H and what assurances were given that this case will be processed. I haven’t seen the decision but I trust that it contains the rationale behind this decision of the cantonal authorities,” said Antonijevic for Tanjug.
As he said, the decision itself should explain what assurances were offered and are the B&H authorities pledged to working on this case.
“As far as we know NaserOric isn’t being discharged, but rather extradited to B&H,” said Antonijevic adding that it isn’t prudent to comment the decision until he sees it.
Stating that by all accounts Oric won’t be tried in Serbia, Antonijevic said that we should wait to hear from the War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office in order to see how they will interpret this decision.
“We can’t try Oric in absentia since he will be in B&H. Most likely certain legal actions will be taken and based on that we can expect some sort of legal clarification of the whole case and maybe even a trial,” Antonijevic said.
Oric was arrested two weeks ago in Switzerland on Serbia’s arrest warrant.
Serbia issued a warrant for his arrest in 2014, on the suspicion that he committed war crimes over the Serb population in Srebrenica in 1992.
