CONFERENCE “SOLIDARITY FOR THE RIGHTS OF ALL”

The Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights YUCOM, together with partners Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) and Association People’s Parliament would like to cordially invite you to the conference in regard to the presentation of second Report on Attacks on Human Rights Defenders in Serbia for 2021 in the hybrid event on February 18, 2022 at 10 AM via Zoom platform. The conference is organized with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia.
The initiative “Solidarity for the Rights of All” has been launched aiming at strengthening and gathering human rights defenders from Serbia and to map various attacks and pressure that HRDs face in Serbia. Due to the importance of the international protection of human rights defenders and solidarity at the international level, the Map of Incidents, identified as a valuable source, is being translated into English. Based on the data collected for the Map, noting these attacks and pressures on organizations, informal groups and individuals involving human rights protection, the team has prepared a second annual report – Report on Attacks on Human Rights Defenders in Serbia for 2021.

- Katarina Golubović PHD, president of the Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights YUCOM
as well as Milena Vasić, attorney at law at the Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights – YUCOM, Mihailo Pavlović, attorney at law, Igor Bandović, director of the Belgrade Center for Security Policy, Kety Abashidze, Senior Human Rights Officer at Human Rights House Foundation Norway, Kristina Todorović, attorney at law at the Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights – YUCOM, Aladin Paučinac, activist from Novi Pazar, Nataša Pušić, Group “Beone” from Novi Sad and Goran Mitrović, Association “People’s Parliament” from Leskovac, with moderator Sonja Tošković, director of Belgrade Center for Human Rights.
During the presentation, attentive participants of the domestic and international public will be presented with information on the current situation and position of human rights defenders in Serbia. In the discussion that will follow after the presentation, the focus will be on the risks and threats faced by human rights defenders, including harsh work atmospheres, harassment, violation of rights, threats and intimidation, with the ultimate goal of contributing to draft recommendations that will increase the level of national and international implementation of the guarantees and immunities of human rights defenders under international law, including proposals for improving their effectiveness and safety.
The agenda of the event is enclosed. Official languages of the event will be Serbian/English, while simultaneous interpretation will be provided. The Report will be distributed after the event.
