Invitation to the conference “Human rights beyond chapters and revision of the Action Plan for Chapter 23”

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the conference “Human rights beyond chapters and revision of the Action Plan for Chapter 23” that, on the occasion of presenting YUCOM’s Annual Report, the Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights Committee is organizing on Friday, February 22nd 2019. The conference will start at 11:00 AM in the Conference Hall of the House of Human Rights and Democracy in 4, Kneza Milosa Street, Belgrade. Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Belgrade has supported the event.
The events in the area of judiciary and human rights during 2018, described in the YUCOM’s Annual Report for 2018, raise the question of the revision of the Action Plan for Chapter 23. The announcement of work on the amendments to the Action Plan will be the topic of the first panel of this annual conference from the perspective of a member of the European Union that went through the accession process, the Head of the negotiating team and the Coordinator of the Working Group for Chapter 23 of the National Convent in Serbia.
Within the second panel there will be presented the results of the project Human Rights beyond Chapters supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, as well as the results of YUCOM’s work on providing free legal aid. The perspectives of protecting human rights will also be reviewed from the standpoint of the constitutional changes that signified 2018.
The third panel will be dedicated to the current processes of selecting a new Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Protection of Personal Data, from the perspective of the profession as the initiator of the transparent process and members of the National Assembly that should provide it, and the importance of access to information for journalists in monitoring the work of the judiciary.
