CONFERENCE IN BRATISLAVA: “INFORMATION MATTERS”
On the 26th of October, the Institute of Ethnology, Slovak Academy of Science jointly with the Slovenian Migration Institute, Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts and Institute for Labour and Family Research organized the dissemination conference under the title “Information matters: towards positive pathways of migrants’ integration”. The conference is part of the activities within the project DRIM (Danube Region Information Platform for Economic Integration of Migrants).
THE FUTURE OF DRIM: APPLICATION FOR SEED MONEY FACILITY CALLThe sustainability of a project is one of the crucial issues that need to be addressed. The University of Technology of Graz in cooperation with the Austrian partners, have been working on a viable alternative that allows the Danube Compass to keep developing in the short and long term. In order to develop this project, the University of Technology has applied for the SEED Money Facility, with the support of DRIM Lead Partners, Slovenian Migration Institute, Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. If the SEED Money Facility gets approved, we will be able to develop competitive proposals on the topic of economic and social inclusion of migrants and build future partnerships based on innovative technologies that lead the outputs of DRIM to a new dimension.
PROJECT DRIM BUILDING ON “GLOCAL COOPERATION”On October 5th, DRIM Partners ZRC SAZU, Gain&Sustain and Caritas Academy met different stakeholders in Graz. At the meeting, representatives of the City of Graz, Interreg project YOUMIG, the Integration Department and the International Affairs Office of the Regional Government, the Diocese Graz-Seckau as well as guests from Japan’s University of Osaka exchanged their views on integration issues in Slovenia, Austria and wider Danube region.
MEETING WITH TEAM OF “DIV-IN-CO”: THE IMPORTANCE OF INFORMATIONGain&Sustain has met some of the members of the Styrian team of the project “div-in-co”. The project has two main focuses: on one hand, it intends to coach companies with multicultural environment; and on the other, it offers counselling and support to women with refugee background, who are looking for a job to overcome the challenges that come with a new job in a different culture. It is an on-going project that started in August 2018 and it is implemented simultaneously in Styria, Salzburg and Upper Austria. The members of the team added the Danube Compass information platform as a tool to be used in their daily work.
DRIM AT THE CONFERENCE EUROPEAN UNION, BREXIT – THE FUTURE OF WORKERS RIGHTSOn November 11th, the DRIM project member Sanja Cukut Krilić from ZRC SAZU, Slovenia, attended the conference European Union, Brexit – the future of workers’ rights organised by the European Association of lawyers for Democracy & World Human Rights (ELDH). Upon invitation of the DRIM project partner The Lawyers’ Committee For Human Rights from Serbia, she presented a paper entitled Insecurities and vulnerabilities of migrant and posted workers: the need for information provision (co-authored with Mojca Vah Jevšnik). The DRIM project was presented as an example of information platform for migrants.
DRIM AT 1ST INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON MULTILINGUISMOn 11th November 2017, the Slovenian Portuguese Friends Association organized, in cooperation with the Slovenian PEN Centre, the 1st International Symposium on Multilingualism. The symposium emerges as a means of education, elucidation, tolerance and raising society’s awareness of the advantages of multilingualism and the challenges it imposes. The DRIM Interreg project and its main tool, the Danube Compass were presented at the symposium with the aim to promote the DRIM tool among migrant communities and to further discuss the multilingual character of Danube Compass.
