Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights (YUCOM) with the support of United Nations Human Rights Team, through the Regular Technical Cooperation Program of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, has the pleasure to invite you to the presentation of two handbooks developed in order to facilitate the exercise of the right to free legal aid:
- Free Legal Aid – A Guide for the Local Self-Governments.
- How to Exercise the Right to Free Legal Aid – Practical Guide for Citizens.
The handbooks will be presented on December 23, 2021, from 11 am to 12.30 pm via ZOOM online platform.
The right to free legal aid is an integral part of the right to a fair trial, which is proclaimed by international treaties that establish guarantees for human rights, concluded under the auspices of the United Nations and the Council of Europe. At the national level this right is also guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia (2006), as well as the new Law on Free Legal Aid (2018).
The handbooks “Free Legal Aid – A Guide for the Local Self-Governments” and “How to Exercise the Right to Free Legal Aid – Practical Guide for Citizens” aim to facilitate the exercise of the right to free legal aid and to help LSGs to implement the Law on Free Legal Aid.
It would be our great pleasure if you could attend the presentation, and if you may forward the invitation to relevant colleagues, in order to get acquainted with the content of these handbooks. Also, we kindly invite you to actively participate in the discussion that will follow after the presentation.
