Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights – YUCOM cordially invites you to the final conference of the project “The Protector of Citizens in the Context of EU Integrations”, supported by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Serbia. The event will take place at the hotel Moskva, on Friday, December 20th, 2019, starting at 11 AM.
The Protector of Citizens, as an independent state body that has been protecting and promoting citizens’ rights, facing numerous challenges in the area of human rights in the Republic of Serbia. As the aim of the project was to ensure that the Republic of Serbia respects the conditions of accession of the EU prescribed in Chapter 23, on occasion of the conference, YUCOM representatives will interpret undertaken activities and findings within the project period as well as provide recommendations.
Beside advocating for increasing its independence, as a member of the Working Group for Chapter 23, YUCOM has been monitoring the progress of implementation of measures within the Action plan for Chapter 23 related to the position of the Protector of Citizens. During the project period, YUCOM has been assessing the efficiency of work of the Protector of Citizens to ensure the protection and promotion of human rights in Serbia in accordance with international standards.
Additionally, YUCOM has conducted the analysis of the work of the Protector of Citizens based on organized round tables, questionnaires and meetings with local ombudsmen, as well as Pro and Contra Analysis on jurisdiction of Protector of the Citizens related to judicial competences.
The working language of the conference will be Serbian, but simultaneous interpretation in English will be provided.
