Center of contemporary politics and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation are organizing a panel discussion „What awaits in Chapter 23 and 24?“ on Friday 12th of August which is being held as a part of the project „Towards Europe“ that is jointly implemented by these two organizations.
The panel discussion will be held on Friday, 12th of August, at 17:00 hours, at the press center of the news agency Tanjug, Obilićev venac 2.
Recently, after long anticipation and numerous obstacles, negotiation chapters – Chapter 23 (Judiciary and Fundamental Rights) and Chapter 24 (Justice, Freedom and Safety) – were finally opened in the accession negotiations with Serbia.
These chapters that were placed in special standing within the EU negotiating framework for Serbia from January 2014. are justifiably considered key chapters in the negotiations on Serbia’s membership in European Union given that the progress in meeting the criteria set out in them also affects the opening and closing of other chapters.
However, what do these negotiation chapters consist of and what will be the key obstacles to meeting the criteria and their closure and therefore to the eventual accession of Serbia to the EU? Also, what kind of benefits for citizens of Serbia are expected from the opening of these chapters? Our guests from the civil sector and institutions of the Republic of Serbia will try to answer these questions.
The panel discussion participants will be Tanja Miščević, head of the negotiating team for negotiations on the accession of Serbia to the EU, Milica Kolaković-Bojović, president of the Council for implementation of the Action Plan for Chapter 23, Milan Antonijević, director of the Committee for Human Rights – YUCOM and coordinator of the working group for Chapter 23 of the National Convention on European Union, and Bojan Elek, researcher at the Belgrade center for security policy.
