The public and journalists were excluded from the trial of the activist Let's Defend the Forests of Fruška Gora, Dragana Arsić, on May 17, 2022. It is one in a series of so-called SLAPP lawsuits against Arsić by the owners of the company Galens, Sanja and Nebojša Petrić. The public was excluded after the plaintiff's lawyer stated that one of the citizens present photographed his client. After that, the judge postponed the hearing at the suggestion of the defendant's attorney in order to provide a larger courtroom in which the interested public could fit. Publicity of the trial is an element of the right to a fair trial and can be excluded only in cases prescribed by law. |
