Overall objective of the action is to contribute to the eradication of torture and impunity in Serbian society and healing from consequences of torture.  Torture represents one of the most serious crimes against humanity and dignity of a person. Person who is tortured is being dehumanised and treated like an object or an animal. Torture is an extreme, interpersonal trauma, which leaves scars on victim’s psychological and physical health, on his family and friends and on the society in general.

The overall objective of this project is to create several guides and competent analysis targeting specific problems, where the citizens can get much easier approach to justice, without external costs. With this group of useful information and professional advices how to use presented knowledge, all citizens could much easier realize their own rights.

 Citizens are usually unaware of their rights and obligations and therefore have a justified fear in meeting with unknown judicial procedures to them, since the outcome can sometimes have a crucial impact on their lives. The unenviable economic situation and money insufficiency is an additional problem that arises. In order to facilitate them in such situations, the MDTF JSS has developed two guides in cooperation with the Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights – YUCOM:  „Self-Representation Guide“ and „A Guide – First Time in Court or at a Courthouse“, which teaches of the relevant problems related to the judicial procedures and the procedures before independent institutions in a simple and illustrative manner.
